Art on the Walls

Come by during office hours to view monthly displays of paintings and photographs from local artists or our collection of historical photos of Metchosin.

You can hang your show for up to a month and there is no charge for renting the space but the community house takes a 15% commission from any sales. This is payable at the end of the show, during the take down.

The office is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and many programs are held in the afternoon. Many private and public functions occur on the weekends as well.  This allows for good exposure for your art but please remember that the venue is a community house and not an art gallery. We keep the commission and fees low for this reason. Don’t expect too many sales.

The community house likes to support the local artists by displaying artwork on the walls while the house is being used for community programs. Your art will be seen by very diverse groups of people throughout the month while the house is open.

The Art On The Walls program offers the House as a wonderful venue for artists to show and display their works. For more information please call the MCH at 250-478-5155.

The house is well designed for presenting your art work. The lighting is good and there is a picture rail for hanging your art.

Artwork must be properly framed and wired, ready for hanging or it will not be accepted. Wire is provided for hanging your pictures from the picture rail and there is a $10 fee to cover the cost.

There is space for up to 45 small pictures/ 22 medium / or 12 large.

You are welcome to have an Artist’s Reception which can be booked through the office Mon –Thursday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 250-478-5155.

This month's featured Artist

Will Gordon

Will Gordon was born and trained in the UK and emigrated to Canada in 1975 where he taught art at the University of Calgary before moving to Victoria with his wife, Cindy. He then taught at Uvic and has participated in an art show at the Metchosin Art Gallery in 2013 so he is no stranger to our community. Cindy participates in the Metchosin Community House Knitting Group where she learned about the Art on the Walls program and passed on the information to her husband. Will said that it is a “wonderful place to display” and has now hung some of his work which shows his wide-reaching interests from birds to found objects and abstract paintings. His art will be “On the Walls” for the next month leading up to the Mighty Metchosin Garage Sale so please stop in to view it.
