The Metchosin Community Association Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 2:00 pm.

The meeting will be held at the Metchosin Community House, 4430 Happy Valley Road. All are very welcome, light refreshments will be served.

There has been a lot of wonderful work by the Metchosin Community Association volunteers this year! MCA programs and events have brought much joy to many community members. The Annual General Meeting is an opportunity to hear about the great things that have been happening, meet the MCA Board members, and to discuss things we could be doing in the coming year.

Please remember, you will need an up-to-date membership to participate in the AGM. You will be able to join or renew your membership at the AGM – still only $10!

If you have ever considered joining this band of community minded individuals, now is your opportunity. You will enjoy the camaraderie working alongside the seasoned board members preparing for fun community events.

APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JUNE 15TH!!

The Metchosin Community Association is pleased to announce that two financial awards of $1000 each will be presented to recipients for further educational pursuits. Applications will be available by April 1st with a deadline of May 15th. A strong connection through leadership, involvement, volunteerism etc., to the Metchosin Community is the key component.

DELICIOUS HOME-MADE SOUP IS AVAILABLE!

A group of friendly neighbours from the Metchosin Community Association and Seniors' Resource Centre have prepared a large quantity of delicious, wholesome soup.

Chicken with Turmeric & Ginger
Red Curry Lentil with Sweet Potato & Spinach - Vegan/Gluten Free

The soups are frozen in single serving containers. They are available for pickup or delivery at the Metchosin Community House and Seniors' Resource Centre.

These delicious and nutritious soups could be enjoyed by seniors or families who don't always have time or energy to make a home-cooked dinner.

There is no set cost; however, all donations are being given directly to the Goldstream Foodbank.

If you are interested in soup for yourself or know of neighbours that would welcome some home-made soup, please contact Yvonne at the Metchosin Seniors' Centre (250-478-5150), or Al at the Metchosin Community House (250-478-5155).

The Metchosin Community House is excited to offer a new Drop-In Spanish Conversation Lesson. This program will run on Wednesday evenings from 5:00pm - 6:30pm every week!

Gabriel Ferreras from Argentina now with Pearson College will be teaching conversational Spanish to anyone who is interested!

MCA Memberships!

Its that time of year again to renew your MCA membership for 2024 / 2025!

Family memberships are $20, individual memberships are $10 per year

All money goes towards keeping the programs running at the Community House

Besides helping to support your community it gives you the opportunity to rent the Community House for meetings, birthdays, celebrations of life, baby showers etc. The house has a capacity of 80 people, a full kitchen, A/V equipment for presentations and a number of seating arrangements for the big room.

A membership also gets you added to our Monthly Membership e-mail newsletter to keep you informed of events going on at the Community House.

So how do you get your membership?

Come on down to visit the MCA office Tuesdays - Fridays from 10am to 2pm, or you can send your information to mcahouse@telus.net (Name, Address, Phone Number, e-mail address) You can e-transfer your membership fee to this e-mail address too!

Mondays

Knitting Café - The evening group meets 7:00 – 9:00 pm on the first and third Mondays. For more info on the evening group, call Heather at 250-478-6590. Knitters of all levels are welcome.

Weights and Measures - 8:30 am – 10:00 am weekly. Weights and Measures is a weight loss and healthy lifestyle support group for anyone in the community.

Drop-In Art Group - This friendly, supportive group of artists and hobbyists meets 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Everyone is welcome. If you would like to join the group, contact Arlene at 250-391-7905.

Fridays

Parents and Tots - 9:30 am – 11:30 am. Calling all Metchosin tots! The Parent and Tot Drop-In Program invites Moms, Dads, Caregivers and their young children to join us Friday mornings for our community program. Children will have access to toys, books and craft opportunities. You will enjoy our relaxed, supportive environment and connecting with other parents and children. We look forward to seeing you and your little ones.

Creative Rug Hooking - Meets noon - 3 pm the first and third Fridays. Free instruction for beginners; kit available for $25. Contact Anne (250-318-7011, email anneloxleybaker@gmail.com ) to discuss supplies needed. Experienced rug hookers are invited to bring their own projects.

Friday Socials - The last Friday of each month from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Drop in for coffee and conversation. Hosted by Baha’is of Metchosin and the Seniors’ Resource Centre. Ukulele Gathering - 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm, third Friday of each month. Open to community members of all ages and levels of talent. Rough Voices - 2:00 - 4:00 pm Third Sunday of every month. The ever-popular community singing group featuring 1940 - 60s singable songs accompanied by musicians with lyrics projected on the screen. All ages and everyone welcome to join! Contact Dale at 250-642-0583
