Film night at the house

Date: APRIL 26th

Time: 7 to 9 pm

Metchosin Community House

Honouring earth’s month (April) the Metchosin Community House and Pearson College Present the film:

Narrated by Woody Harrelson, this documentary is about a revolutionary group of activists, scientists, farmers, and politicians’ band together in a global movement of "Regenerative Agriculture" that could balance our climate, replenish our vast water supplies, and feed the world. Despite being U.S. centered, this 1 hour and 24 min film and provides some insights of what is now considered a global existential threat and offers an optimistic possibility to address one of the main causes of climate change and global warming. The movie shows how powerful we can each be, literally, in our own backyard and provides some hope for the future.

A panel of Pearson College students from the Climate Action Leadership Diploma, Cald, will comment the film and provide their perspectives with the intention of engaging the audience into a wider reflection.

Reminder: Volunteer Opportunities coming up for the Mighty Metchosin Garage Sale!

May 11, May 18th – May 26th, 2024

During the week before the actual Garage Sale the Community House is looking for Volunteers to help with many fun and exciting activities to prepare for everyone’s favourite Garage Sale!

If you have some free time and are interested in meeting some great friendly people in your community, come on down! We need all the help we can get for this fundraiser to help keep the Metchosin Community House and its many great community programs running.

There are many super fun things you can help with too! I will try to list them all but there are just too many:

·       Assisting with putting up and taking down the event tents

·       Accepting donations during the week before the sale

·       Sorting donations in the house before the sale

·       Night Security (no night vision goggles provided but a black turtleneck and a thermos of coffee are both highly recommended)

·       Selling amazing treasures at the actual Garage Sale!

·       Cleaning up after the madness

·       Entry cash money donation takers

·       Organising recycling

It is also important to note that Volunteers will get to wear a very cool high visibility vest, could have the opportunity to use the megaphone and get a lunch and snack too!

If any of this sounds like a good fit, give us an email at mcahouse@telus.net or call the office (250-478-5155) Tuesday – Friday from 10am – 2pm and we will get you on our list!

Fire Smart Garden Project

The Community House is working in conjunction with our great District and the Metchosin Fire Department to do some planning for changes to the gardens surrounding the house. The Fire Smart program is a great program currently being offered by the Metchosin Fire Department that assists with ideas for making our properties more fire smart ahead of the summer!

Communicable Disease Prevention Plan for MCA

The Metchosin Community Association (MCA) requests that all program leads, and private renters review our organization’s Communicable Disease Prevention Plan and follow its guidelines. These guidelines are based on recommendations from BC Health.

Community House user groups and private renters are required to self-monitor and not use the facility if they are ill or/and have symptoms of communicable disease, or have had recent contact with someone who has a communicable disease.

The House capacity is current 100% (80 people).

Masks and Proof of Vaccines are no longer a requirement, however, the MCA strongly recommend that rental and program organizers err on the side of caution and consider masking and vaccination requirements, especially when there are high-risk participants or activities. The MCA also encourages that rentals and program organizers leave windows / doors open to promote better ventilation and or turn on the switch for the ventilation fan. The rental and program organizers are responsible for proper cleaning and disinfection of the house after each event.
