Mighty Metchosin Garage Sale Volunteer Guide
THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING FOR RECEIVING & SORTING!
1. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather of the day, or days you are volunteering. Hats and clothing for protection against the sun are important considerations. Work gloves are also a good idea.
2. You may have been assigned to (or requested an area): general sorting of donations, sorting within a department such as housewares, garden, clothing, children, electronics, furniture etc., transporting sorted items by foot or wheelbarrow to appropriate departments.
3. Go to the area where you have been assigned. See map. If you have not been assigned an area, ask the coordinator (Al Murray) where you should volunteer.
4. Garbage should be placed in appropriate receptacles: recycling, glass, plastic, paper, garbage, etc. and will be clearly labelled.
5. These items should be placed in the garbage: broken items, unclean, damaged, or soiled clothing, items missing pieces, etc.
6. Cardboard boxes are available from a common area in front of the metal container.
7. Place good quality, higher end, antique, or unusual items in the appropriate wheelbarrow(s) and have a runner take them to the Silent Auction and/or Chic Boutique coordinators to be assessed.
8. Make sure to take water, coffee, and lunch breaks. Food and drinks are provided in the Community House. Please clean up after yourself.
9. You may buy an item that you have found while sorting (if it has not been added to the silent auction). Please wait until Friday of the donation drop off week to do this. Negotiate the price with the lead volunteer in charge of that area.
